Next Toastmasters Meeting: The Spirit of Pride!

By Wonkyung Kwak

As we step into June, it’s time to celebrate Pride Month—a time dedicated to honoring the LGBTQ+ community and recognizing the ongoing struggle for equal rights and acceptance.

Pride is more than a celebration; it’s a powerful movement born from the courage and resilience of those who fought—and continue to fight—for equality and justice. It’s about embracing who we are, standing up for what we believe in, and fostering a community where everyone can feel seen, heard, and valued.

During our next Toastmasters meeting, we’ll explore what Pride means to each of us. Whether it’s sharing personal stories of courage, discussing the importance of diversity and inclusion, or simply expressing support for the LGBTQ+ community, let’s come together to celebrate the spirit of Pride.

Looking forward to seeing you all and celebrating Pride with our unique and inspiring stories.

Last meeting: The World of Dreams

On the 30th of May, our Toastmaster’s meeting was themed around dreams. What are dreams? What is the science behind them? And what can we learn about ourselves by observing our dreams? Dreams fascinated people for a long time, but it is only recently that we learned about the true nature of dreams. When we dream, our brain’s parts responsible for visual perception, motor skills, memory and emotions are active, while the part responsible for logical thinking is inactive. Hence, why our dreams can be so bizarre and wonderful.

Morvarid gave us the word of the day, which was “fact” as an opposite to the bizarre and surreal nature of dreams. Katarina proposed the joke of the day, telling us what is the best about Switzerland (the flag is a big plus!).

We heard two speeches. Wonkyung’s speech, titled Stories from across the sea: the mysterious world of fortune-telling, invited us to peer into the future. Meanwhile, Maxime reflected on his Dynamic Leadership path with a speech titled More than I ever dreamt, inspiring all of us to remain dedicated to Toastmasters.

Kadri asked curious questions regarding dreams, to which Romain, Yves and Katarina responded. Titouan provided feedback to Wonkyung while Morvarid’s evaluation of Max’s speech was also a special “roast.”

Romain, Yves and Morvarid reported back on our performance with regard to time, filler words and word of the day, respectively. Michael finally provided a general evaluation of how things went for the meeting, highlighting things we did well and could do better.

Come and cheer the future core group for the Toastmasters year 2024-2025 in the coming Toastmasters meeting on 11 June 2024!

The core group is officially elected by Toastmasters club members. Its purpose is to serve the club and ensure it works smoothly and in a friendly environment. Club officer roles include three Vice -Presidents (Education, Membership, Public Relations), treasurer, Secretary, Sergeant at Arms, and of course the President. There are also several deputy roles to support the Vice Presidents. Learn more about leadership roles in Toastmasters here.

The new core group will take up its duties from 1 July 2024, and can count on the experience of the current one (until 30 June 2024) for a great start.
